Footballer Cavani sent off for slapping Chile defender who 'inserted finger into his anus' (photos)

Why would you insert your finger inside another man's anus? That's what Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara did yesterday during a match with Uruguay. He patted Uruguay star Edinson Cavani on the butt then inserted a finger into his butt. Cavani turned and flicked a hand into Jara's face, who fell on the floor like he had been kicked. Cavani was sent off after the incident because he already had one yellow card. The match officials didn't see what the defender had done to Cavani. But after the match, post match cameras showed what had happened and Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez is asking Jara to be sanctioned, saying Cavani had been the victim of provocation.

Lambie at 10 against England?

Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer could start Pat Lambie at flyhalf in Saturday's Test against England at Twickenham, Olokunbolablessing.com reports.

Lambie has only started at flyhalf in one of the Boks' last 22 Tests - the 30-17 win over Scotland in Nelspruit last year.

DWYANE Wade will miss LeBron James, but not the expectations and attention that accompanied his superstar former teammate.
In a revealing interview with Bleacher Report, Wade talks about the immense pressure the Heat faced last season as they tried to three-peat and the renewed energy around the club with James returning to his hometown Cavaliers.
“I don’t know,” Wade told the website. “It’s hard to say, man, because you want it. We wanted it. So it’s hard to say that. You don’t know exactly what’s going to come with it, but we put ourselves in that position.
“But sometimes you can put too much on yourself, all of us, and it becomes a black cloud around. Last year wasn’t fun. I mean, there was no stretch of it [that was] fun. That whole season, to me, it’s amazing we made it to the Finals. It’s just honest.”
James, Wade and Chris Bosh reached four straight Finals and won two championships in their four seasons together in Miami. The Heat and team president Pat Riley wanted to bring all three back after they opted out of their contracts following a five-game Finals dismantling by the Spurs.

Phil Mickelson takes shot at Ryder Cup rivals Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell

 
PHIL Mickelson, set to become the first American to play in 10 Ryder Cups, could not resist a good-natured jibe at European teamwork and stars Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.
The 44-year-old left-hander will move within one of Nick Faldo’s highest record of Ryder Cup’s played this week at Gleneagles as the US squad, losers in seven of the past nine meetings, tries to win in Europe for the first time since 1993.
“It has been an exciting event for me over the years,” Mickelson said.
“As I look back over my career, it’s the Ryder Cups and team events I’ve been on that really provide the great memories, great experiences and accomplishments I like to reflect back on.”
Asked about US teamwork, Mickelson made a mild poke at world No. 1 McIlroy’s lawsuit against his former management agency, which still works with teammate McDowell.
“Not only are we able to play together, we also don’t litigate against each other and that’s a real plus, I feel, heading into this week,” Mickelson said on Wednesday.
“I couldn’t resist. Sorry.”

Debuchy out for three months

Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchy will be out of action for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his left ankle, Soccerway reports.

The France international suffered the injury during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on September 13 after catching his studs in the turf.

Manager Arsene Wenger confirmed in the immediate aftermath of the game that the defender had sustained a sprain, but it was unclear how serious the injury was.

But on Monday, it was confirmed that the 29-year-old, who joined from Newcastle United during the transfer window, had been forced to undergo an operation and will be out until late December.

“He has had surgery and will be out for three months,” Wenger told the club’s official website. “A reasonable delay is three months.

“It all went well, but it can be a week or two earlier or a week or two later, but it will be around three months.”

Uefa plans rule change to clamp down on third-party player ownership

Uefa is poised to introduce new rules to tackle urgently what it sees as the scourge of third-party ownership of players in Europe as early as next season. Transgressors ultimately face the possibility of transfer bans or having players excluded from the Champions League.

A Guardian investigation on Monday revealed that Jorge Mendes, regarded as the most powerful football agent in Europe, is serially involved in third-party ownership and Uefa, increasingly frustrated by Fifa’s inaction on the issue despite repeated vows to tackle the problem, is now drawing up new rules that could be introduced for its next three-year cycle of competition from 2015-16.
As with the introduction of its financial fair play, there would be a transition period to allow clubs to comply with the new rules but the aim would be to clamp down on third-party ownership among clubs competing in the Champions League or Europa League.

Manchester United: Juan Mata 'could not have imagined' defeat

Manchester United's Juan Mata has admitted he could not have imagined the Reds' 5-3 defeat at Leicester.

Manager Louis van Gaal started with big-money signings Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao.
But Premier League newcomers Leicester overturned a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3 as they dominated the last half-hour.
"I keep thinking about how we lost a game that was under control," said Mata, 26. "I could not imagine a day like this."

Theo Walcott: Arsenal forward set for October return

England forward Theo Walcott is set to return to action for Arsenal in October after 10 months out with a knee injury.

He is likely to make his comeback after the international break, with England playing San Marino on 9 October and Estonia three days later.
Walcott, 25, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during an FA Cup third-round tie against Tottenham in January.
As a consequence he missed a second successive World Cup.
If the former Southampton player makes his return in October, that would make him available for England's Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Slovenia on 15 November, followed by the friendly away to Scotland on 18 November.

Today it took me a long time to sit down in front of the computer in order not to miss my weekly meeting with you. I have waited a few hours before facing the white screen to try to express how I feel after the game in Leicester. After a whole week waiting for the match I could not imagine a Sunday like this. The way back from Leicester to Manchester on the bus seemed really long.
I keep thinking about how we lost a game that was under control, but the thing is we were ahead, they equalised and when we tried to get advantage again we lost. It’s really tough to score three goals away and come back home with no points. On our way back to Manchester I was thinking about what had happened and felt so disappointed as all those that came with us to the stadium. Honestly, I feel very sorry that the weekend ended up for our fans in such a sad way.

Ahmed Musa, Oduamadi shine for clubs

Ahmed Musa’s lone goal on Sunday was the decider when CSKA Moscow beat city rivals, Locomotiv Moscow, 1-0 at home in the Russian Premier League. Musa scored the goal in the 33rd minute after one of his trademark runs.

The win ensures that CSKA Moscow are second in the log with 18 points from eight matches. Zenit St. Petersburg top the table with 24 points from the same number of matches.

Nnamdi Oduamadi was also on target for his Serie B side, Crotone, on Saturday in their 2-0 home win over Bologna. The Eagles midfielder came on in the 70th minute to score his club’s second goal 12 minutes later after Steve Beleck had put the hosts ahead in the 46th minute. The win was the first for Crotone in the four-week-old season.

In the Spanish La Liga, Ramon Azeez was an unused substitute as Almeria defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 on Sunday. Azeez has made only one appearance for Almeria this season.

Ryder Cup 2014: Lee Westwood talks up Europe captain Paul McGinley

Barring something exceptional, Lee Westwood is on the verge of playing in a Ryder Cup in Britain for the last time. It may well be a struggle for the 41‑year‑old to take part in a “home” meeting with the United States again and in four years the event will take place in France.
Do not dare, though, suggest to Westwood that three days at Gleneagles next weekend will take on extra importance for those very reasons. The fact he will participate for Europe as a captain’s pick would, ordinarily, only add to Westwood’s determination to succeed.
“I won’t appreciate it any more, because I’ve always appreciated playing in the Ryder Cup,” Westwood says. “It’s a privileged experience to go through. And the more you play in them, the more you take it all in and enjoy it more.

QPR’s Niko Kranjcar nicks point on mixed day for Stoke’s Peter Crouch

This time it looked as if Mark Hughes was going to leave Loftus Road happy. Sporadic boos greeted the Welshman on his first return to the ground since he was sacked as QPR manager nearly two years ago but goals from Mame Biram Diouf and Peter Crouch put his Stoke City side on course to depart with three points. Two minutes from the end, however, the home team’s best player, Niko Kranjcar, equalised with a fine free-kick.
In truth, the hostility of most home fans towards Hughes was as subdued as QPR’s performance. Most locals seemed to confine themselves to hoping that their current team would provide cutting comment on Hughes’s reign by demonstrating that the club were now much better off than when he left – that should not have been hard given that QPR were bottom of the Premier League back then with four points from 12 matches, but Harry Redknapp’s men have made an unconvincing start to this season and were woeful for long periods here.

Ronaldinho blasts penalty kick into the stands on his Mexican debut

Ronaldinho made his debut for Queretaro in their Copa MX match against Tigres and though he was presented with a golden opportunity to start with a bang, it didn't quite work out for him.

Tigres jumped out to an early lead when Herculez Gomez scored in the ninth minute. But in the second half, one of Ronaldinho's new teammates took a dive that would've made Arjen Robben proud. The two-time World Player of the Year was given the chance to take the spot kick, but he launched it over the crossbar and into the stands.

Tigres went on to win 1-0. This probably won't help Ronaldinho's stated goal of getting titles and girls.

I’m not appreciated enough —Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that his contribution to the team is often undervalued after a difficult start to the season, Goal reports.

The Spain international started Saturday’s match against Athletic Bilbao on the bench and was recently left out of the Spain squad, having been a mainstay in Vicente del Bosque’s first team in recent years.

However, he believes that he deserves more credit for how he has developed during his time at Camp Nou after having his performances roundly criticised.

“I feel that, for a while, I have not been valued for what I have done sportingly,” he told reporters.

“I have been learning more and more every year. The years remaining in my career will be the same. I say that calmly because I work hard every year.

Woods laughs off Rory age comments

Tiger Woods took in stride the comments made by Rory McIlroy last week about him and Phil Mickelson being on the “last few holes” of their careers, ESPN reports.

“I thought it was funny,” Woods said on Monday at a news conference to promote his annual golf tournament. “I mean, Phil has less holes to play than I do, though. What is he, five years older than me or four? Yeah, so yeah, it’s a reality, you know? We’re all older.

“I’m nearing my 20th season on tour here coming up pretty soon. I’ve been out here for a while, and Phil has been out here for a while. … It’s just part of the ageing process. When I first came out here on tour, I remember seeing some of these fellow players and their kids, and now I’m actually playing against their kids. It’s just how time goes on and time goes by.”

NSC, NFF yet to decide on Keshi

The future of Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach may still be clouded in mystery after it was learnt that the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation have yet to decide on renewing his contract with the national team.

The coach’s contract ended with the Eagles’ round of 16 defeat to France at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but talks over a new contract have stalled with the NFF stating that they could not pay the N15m per month salary Keshi is asking for.

Sports minister, Tammy Danagogo, intervened by asking Keshi to take charge of the team for the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa on a caretaker basis.

But the coach has come under scathing criticisms for the Eagles’ performance in the defeat 3-2 to Congo at home before holding South Africa to a 0-0 draw in Cape Town.

Hat-trick hero Igbonu wants more goals

Nigerian star performer in Europe last week, Sylvester Igbonu, says he is banking on his current form to score more goals for his Danish club, FC Midtjylland.

Igbonu scored all three goals on Friday as Midtjylland defeated OB Odense 3-2 in an explosive encounter.

The powerful striker is joint top scorer in Denmark with five goals to his credit as Midtjylland occupy top spot in the Danish Superliga after seven games.

He scored once in the 3-1 away defeat of Sonderjyske , then grabbed the winner in the 2-1 win over Kobenhavn, before hitting a hat-trick on Friday.
