A mum has been handed a six-month driving ban and a £305 fine after
causing a cyclist's death by opening her car door "negligently".Robert Hamilton, a retired lecturer in his 70s, died after hitting his head on the ground during the accident in Southport in January this year, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Mum-of-one Joanne Jackson, 44, had pulled up outside her home at around 11.55am with her three-year-old daughter in her Toyota Avensis, clipping a wheelie bin with her left wing mirror as she parked, causing her to move slightly forward, a court heard.
She then opened the driver’s door into the road just as Mr Hamilton, of Dunbar Road, Birkdale, was cycling past.
