Monkeypox a rare disease has broken out in Bayelsa State. This pox
according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), is similar to
smallpox, but milder.
Punch reports that at least 10 people have been quarantined at the isolation center in Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, in Yenagoa.
The monkeypox virus, according to WHO is usually transmitted to people from various wild animals, and has minimal secondary spread via human-to-human transmission.
Ebitimitula Etebum, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, said the state government are working hard to see that the disease does not spread ad have samples to the World Health Organisation’s reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.
