Residents of Ikun-Akoko, in the Akoko SouthWest Local Government Area of Ondo State were agog as the Ondo state Ministry of Justice commissioned a Customary Court in the town on Thursday 18th May 2023.
While delivery the welcome address at the official commissioning of the customary court, The Olukun of Ikunland, HRM Oba Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola, appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led administration for listening to the community’s pleas and deemed it fit to return the services of the customary court back to the town.
In his words, ”the entire people of Ikun-Akoko are grateful to the current people oriented administration of the current Governor of Ondo state, H.E Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu for listening to our pleas and returned the services of this important customary court to our town”.
He also used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor of the State, and authorities of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to consider the return of the Police Post to the community. He also appealed to other sister security agencies such as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to establish a Post in the community so as to further strengthen the security architecture of Community.
Like Oliver Twist, the revered King also appealled to the Honourable Chief Justice of the State to consider the Community in the establishment of a Magistrate Court.
During the commissioning, the President of Customary Court of ondo state, Hon. Justice E. A. Alade, in her speech said the enforcement of law emanating from the court authority is effective and should not be frown at.
She also charged them that all constituted authorities of the court should be respected accordingly. She promised that more officials of the Court would be deployed in the course of time.
