Oriana Garcia, 26, pleaded guilty to first-degree child abuse over the death of nine-year-old Jack Garcia.The tragic youngster was handcuffed to a chair by Garcia's brother, Jacob Barajas, before her boyfriend Robert Wilson started beating him.
Garcia approved the punishment as she was "trying to teach Jack not to steal," according to Hagerstown Police Detective Shane Blankenship.Wilson savagely beat the boy because he thought the youngster had eaten cake meant for his two-year-old daughter, Daily Record reports.
Jack was beaten unconscious on June 30 and died in hospital six days later on July 5.Police say Garcia allowed the abuse to happen and sent an ambulance away as her son lay dying.Prosecutors agreed to drop a second-degree murder charge and seek a sentence of no more than 20 years for Garcia, who appeared in a courtroom in Maryland.Wilson is serving 30 years for second-degree murder .
Garcia's brother Barajas is awaiting sentencing for first-degree child abuse.
