The South Carolina woman found “chained up like a dog” inside a metal storage container is suing the man accused of kidnapping her and killing her boyfriend.
Kala Brown filed the personal injury suit Wednesday against suspected serial killer Todd Kohlhepp in Spartanburg County court, saying he abducted her on Aug. 31, The State reported.
“Defendant presented a firearm and took Miss Brown hostage. Thereafter, defendant chained and locked her inside a metal shipping container situated on defendant’s property,” according to the court filing.
“Defendant maliciously and intentionally held Miss Brown against her will inside the storage container for a period of more than two months. Miss Brown was rescued by Spartanburg County Sheriff Deputies.”
Brown, 30, and her boyfriend, Charles Carver, answered an ad from Kohlhepp, 45, to clean up his property. He allegedly pulled a gun on the couple, killing Carver, 32, before taking Brown hostage.
Brown suffered “actual damages in the form of medical expenses, both present and future, and punitive damages in an amount to be determined by a jury,” the complaint read, without specifying an amount.
Cops found Brown Nov. 3 inside the storage container on Kohlhepp’s sprawling property. “We’re trying to make sure we don’t have a serial killer on our hands,” Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said at the time. “It very possibly could be what we have.”
The investigation that followed linked Kohlhepp, a real estate agent, to seven murders dating back to 2003, authorities said.
