Wife of pharmacist of committed suicide pleads her innocence

The late Paul Olafare and wife Busayo.Busayo Olafare, the wife of the depressed pharmacist, Paul Olafare, who allegedly committed suicide on Sunday, April 12, 2015, due to his indebtedness amounting to millions of naira, has cried out against the injustice being meted out to her by her in-laws who are not convinced that the young man who was in his 30s actually killed himself.

The woman who is currently in detention after being arrested by her in-laws, insists that her husband, winner of the Lagos State Pharmacist of the Year 2013, took his own life in their Oworonshoki, Lagos, home by drinking poison on the fateful day while she was preparing for church service.
Different accounts have been making the rounds since the sad news of Olafare's suicide with his family and friends singing discordant tunes.
Close family friends say he had been suicidal and had on few occasions tried to kill himself, citing one of such foiled attempts being his intention to jump into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
A close friend of late father of two reportedly disclosed that the deceased had, three days to committing suicide, sent a text message to his wife advising her to remarry and take care of their two children should any harm befall him.
But his family are dissatisfied with the account being given by the wife and believe the woman must have murdered him.
However, in her statement to the police, the grieving woman has maintained that her husband committed suicide after he drank a bottle of poison.
Police sources hinted that she claimed to have come out of the bathroom that fateful day, when she met her husband with a liquid substance in a plastic bottle, suspected to be pesticide.
She stated that she wanted to take the bottle from him, and in the process he informed her that there was no need to struggle with him as he had already drank the substance.
