Johannesburg - The case against an 18-year-old man accused of raping his 5-year-old niece has been postponed to 13 January, Gauteng police say.
The man would remain in custody after appearing in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said.
He was arrested on 28 December, a day after the toddler's mother walked in on him allegedly raping the child in Mofolo North, Soweto.
The girl was taken for a medical examination.
"The attending doctor found that it was not the first time the child had been raped. The girl is now in counselling and is being treated for injuries," Makhubela said at the time.
