A SIXTEEN-year-old boy who planned to blow up his school with explosives said he got too drunk and forgot to pack the explosives in his backpack.
Sash Alexander Nemphos, who attends George Washington Carver Centre for the Arts and Technology in Towson, Maryland, told Baltimore County Police that he made two homemade explosives and stole his dad’s .38 calibre with the plan to kill his parents, students, teachers and a school police officer, according to documents cited by The Baltimore Sun.
Nemphos planned to bomb his school on Halloween and put the revolver in his backpack but forgot the explosives after drinking whiskey and becoming intoxicated.
He planned to try again on Monday but he was arrested on Saturday after employees at a restaurant reported items had been stolen from their unlocked vehicles and a teenager boy had been hanging around. Another witness said he had tried to buy cigarettes and had noted the registration plates of a car he got into.
The car belonged to Nemphos’ father and police went to the family home. Nemphos was questioned and his father pulled an officer aside and said his revolver had been stolen and he suspected his son.
Nemphos eventually admitted he had stolen the gun and hidden it in a plastic container in his bedroom.
“Officers responded to the suspect’s Monkton home, where he showed them a handgun and devices believed to be explosive,” police stated in a release after that arrest.
“These were crude, homemade devices made of readily available components. They also found tools and components that could be used to make additional devices.”
He told officers that he was going to kill his parents and then drive to the school and shoot the school police officer. He said he then would take the school officer’s gun and kill as many students and teachers as he could, according to court documents.
Police documents indicated Nemphos told officers he had been bullied at the school for years and despite informing teachers, they had taken no action.
Nemphos, treated as an adult, was charged with possession of a destructive device, theft and a handgun violation. He is being held in custody.
