Cape Town – A passenger is lucky to be alive after the propeller
broke off an Air Canada Express plane and crashed through her window.
Daily Mail reports that the short flight was en route from Calgary to Grande Prairie, but was forced to perform a crash landing outside the town of Edmonton when one of the tires burst on take-off.
According to a Gawker report, the plane hit the ground at an angle and started skidding on its right-hand side, sending one of the five propellers crashing through the window Christina Kurylo, the injured passenger, was sitting next to.
Kurylo was immediately rushed to hospital where she was treated for bruising and concussion.
She told Global News that she was lucky to alive and that her situation could have been a whole lot worse.
Kurylo was one of 75 passengers on board the flight, of whom another three were also taken to University of Alberta Hospital for treatment following the crash.
The incident is being investigated, but in the meantime it has surfaced that the same model plane, a Jazz Aviation craft, was grounded by Scandinavian Airlines in 2007 after numerous faults.
