Man shot dead by Qld police

POLICE were called to a Tewantin address just after 2pm (AEST) on Sunday after reports of a disturbance.

Acting Superintendent John Bosnjak said a 51-year-old interstate man was shot by police after he confronted them in the street. "The issue is quite complex, there is a lot to work through," he told reporters on Sunday. Supt Bosnjak did not confirm whether the man was armed. He said the man was apparently related to the residents at the Tewantin address. The shooting was traumatic for the family and police, Supt Bosnjak said. "You don't come to work to be involved in matters like this, so I do feel for my people and I obviously feel for the family of the deceased male," he said. The incident is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command and will be referred to the coroner. Supt Bosnjak said there were a significant number of witnesses and police were still gathering details.
