A man is thought to have murdered
his wife before plunging to his death from a multi-storey car park in a
gruesome crime that has left four young girls without parents.
The
37-year-old man was found dead at the foot of a six-storey car park in
Bury St Edmunds after he was thought to have fallen earlier today.
After
finding the body, police went round to a cottage the man's wife is
thought to have been renting in nearby Long Melford, where they
discovered her body inside.
Other family members were tonight
believed to be looking after the couple’s four daughters all believed to
be aged between 11 and six.
According to locals the man,
described as a devout Catholic, had separated from his wife who is
believed to have come from West Africa, more than a year ago but the
couple stayed in touch for the sake of their four daughters who all went
to local Catholic schools.
One shocked villager said tonight: "It
is a shocking tragedy - we knew there had been problems between Oliver
and his wife but no-one ever imagined it would come to something as
terrible as this.
"Their children are dear little girls - it is heartbreaking to think they have lost both their mother and their father."
Historic
Long Melford, once famous for its dozens of antique shops was the
backdrop for the hit 80's TV series starring Ian McShane as the rogue
antique dealer Lovejoy.
