Muyiwa Ademola needs little or no introduction to avid viewers of
Nollywood Yoruba films. The actor-cum producer has featured in and
produced numerous captivating movies among which “Alapadupe”
transported movie buffs to another realm. As it were, little is known
about his royal background as a Prince from Ago –Owu.
In this interview, the multi award winning moviemaker and celebrated actor reveals the fact about himself among other issues.
What has been your biggest achievement in Nollywood?
Do I have any biggest achievement, I don’t know because to me I’m still going to achieve and work towards something big. It’s a race, a destination not yet reached, best not yet done. But so far so good I think my film entitled “Alapadupe” brought me the greatest kudos so far, I felt like a president when people approached me and say “Muyiwa, I have made up my mind to stop serving God, but when I watched your film: “Alapadupe”, I just can’t stop serving the Almighty God.
What inspired the movie?
I went to a place about 10years ago. There a Muslim clergy man was trying to console a deceased wife who lost her husband to an auto crash and the Alfa said:
“Alapaduupe lolorun Oba, tobasepe gbogbo yin lewa ninu moto pelu arakunrin wa nko kileefe bolorun fa” (God is someone deserving thanks, even when someone dies, what if all of you were together with the deceased in the car what would you have done). Then I thought of it that if God could decide to kill only one person and not all of us, then he is worth worshiping. So that motivated me into educating people about need towards giving thanks to God in all situations.
Who is Muyiwa Ademola
An actor, jack of all trades and master of all; though people don’t know I am a prince because I choose to keep that aspect of me to myself.
Muyiwa Ademola is a prince from Oke-ago Owu and my big uncle, Adetokunbo Ademola is the first chief justice of the federation, people don’t know we are from the same lineage, actually my father is late, but before he died he was always called upon to attend Omo Oriade’s meetings and the likes.
How did you develop your acting skills?
One thing about me is that I mimic people a lot, Also my beautiful wife (Olori Omolara Ademola) and my lovely kids are always there to help. I have a big mirror that serves as my audience in my room and I put different characters into practice, record it and give to my family to assess, that’s why I love my family so much!
It has been a while you produced a movie. Any issue?
I don’t just write script, I look before I leap. For like two years now I have not produced any movie and people keep asking me what happened just as you did. But to me bringing heads together to shoot a film isn’t the main point, but the story content means a lot. If a story is not interesting and educative, even if the money is as big as a governor’s salary I may not go for such role because I want to be remembered for all those good jobs I did and not for the amount of money or numbers of houses and cars I have, it’s about quality not quantity.
Is acting a career you would recommend for youngsters?
Yes, acting is a noble profession, a respectable one that combines many aspects in one, I believe my kids will also take it from me, just that, right now we are facing a lot of challenges as a result of piracy and negligence from the part of our government and other stakeholders that are supposed to sponsor us to produce good films.
How do you deal with female fans
It didn’t just start raining, it has been raining for a while and you know when it rains then you should use an umbrella. It’s an experience I have been handling for long.
Sometimes it’s not so funny when you want to handle it and people start saying the guy is rude, he’s no more picking calls blah blah blah.
But nobody knows the root of the matter, the important aspect is that if we break the percentage of fans into sex we would notice that 70 per cent of female keep a vigil on our films while the remaining 30 per cent would even have to be motivated by the 70 per cent so you wouldn’t just afford losing all of them. I think we need to appreciate them, though the handshake shouldn’t go beyond the elbow.
One big thing is that I admire my fans very much for believing in me despite my shortcomings, may God Almighty continue to be their shield.

I choose to tell The Sun newspaper because I believe when the sun shines, you would love to feel the brightness.
