HAVING kids changes a man — almost always for the better. If a date tells you he has kids, don’t let it put you off seeing him. Instead, focus on the role his little ones have had on shaping him into a more rounded, generous person.
Dating guru eHarmony has come up with 15 reasons why single dads rock.
1. Single dads use their time wisely. They know that life is too precious to spend it playing the
pokies or exploring the virtual kingdoms of World of Warcraft.

2. He’s patient. It’s all a part of being a parent, but it’s a very useful personality trait when
you’re trying to get to know each other during the early stages of a new relationship.
3. A single dad knows that in order to be loved, you must be willing to love. As the Ancient
Roman poet, Virgil, famously said “love begets love”.

4. He knows what really matters. A single dad knows that a date may eventually play a part in
his child’s life, which is why he values qualities like loyalty and commitment far above superficial ones in a potential partner.
5. Single dads know when to be playful and when to be serious. They won’t tell fart jokes
to your parents at the dinner table, but they might bring out the Tickle Monster when you least expect it.

6. He doesn’t swear (much). Single dads have learned the skill of turning expletives into child-
friendly exclamations: shhhh-ugar, fuuudge, bugger, etc.
7. He’s good with kids. Okay, it’s obvious, but you don’t need to wonder if he’ll be a good
father. You KNOW he is.
8. He’s responsible. Single dads know that letting people down has big consequences.
9. He has a great sense of humour. Dad jokes may be cheesy, but if yarns like “What’s ET
short for? Because he’s got little legs!” make you snigger then you may have met your perfect
guy.

10. He can adapt. Even the most macho dads can be tender-hearted nurturers when the
situation calls for it.
11. Single dads can fix things as fast as kids (or anyone else) can break them.
12. He’s emotionally mature. Nothing helps someone “grow up” faster than having to take care
of a small human being.
13. You can be a kid again. Date a single dad and you can shamelessly go to the zoo, visit
water parks, slide down slides, and sit on Santa’s knee. OK, maybe not the last one.

14. They relish adult conversation. Small person chat can be a tiny bit repetitive, so don’t be
afraid to talk about current affairs, philosophy, art or poetry — preferably over a nice “big person” meal with a glass of wine or a beer.
15. You may find more than one person to fall in love with. Falling in love with a single dad
means you’ll also get to form a special bond with some special little people and create your
own, unique family.
Have you ever dated a single dad? Are you a single dad and want to add anything to the list?
