Four remanded in prison for alleged armed robbery

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, on Tuesday remanded four men; Isiaka Ayorinde, Ayodele Olarewaju, Qudus Adesola and  Bunmi Thomas in prison for alleged armed robbery.

Ayorinde; 38, Olarewaju; 24, Adesola; 27 and Thomas; 22, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a two-count charge of armed robbery and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Corporal Rosemary Brown, had told the court that the accused and others at large, committed the offences on December 6, 2013 at about 1.35 a.m.

Brown said the accused persons and the others at large, attacked the complainant, Mr. Oladimeji Balogun, at Oladimeji Street, Ajibanwo in Ota.

She said the accused dispossessed the complainant of  a Samsung cell phone valued  at N12,000, a wrist watch valued at N3,500 and jewellery valued at N17,000.

“The accused and others at large used one locally-made gun to dispossess Balogun of the items during the attack,” she said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 1(2), (a) and 5(r) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act 398 of the Criminal Code, Law of the Federation 2004.

The Magistrate, Mr. Alliu Soneye, said the accused persons should be kept in prison, pending an advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

He adjourned the case to March 6, 2014 for mention.
